Small Savings

My husband and I are currently a one income household while I am finishing up in school so I am all about a great deal or a money saving tip. So I thought I'd share a couple of things that have been money savors for my husband and me; they're small things but in the long run these small things equal big savings.

First, I went from this...

To this...

I was never a huge coffee drinker but once the late nights and early mornings of college began I developed an addiction. And that addiction equaled STARBUCKS, STARBUCKS, STARBUCKS! Now this was just fine when I was spending all of my own money on coffee, but once I moved in with my husband, the master budgeter, I couldn't justify spending that much money on coffee alone. So after the wedding, armed with giftcards, I entered Bed, Bath, & Beyond in search of a coffee pot. And this coffee pot (and portable coffee mug) is what I walked out with! This little, no frills, nothing special coffee pot has been a huge money savor for my hubby and me.

Second, I went from this...

(The roll of paper towels...ignore the other things in the picture)

To this...

This little trick has to be fully credited to Cody, it's something that he learned at the fire station. I was hesitant at first but when I really gave it a thought it made a lot of sense. This is what we do now. Instead of using paper towels to clean up small messes in the kitchen or use paper towels as napkins during dinner we use these small, white, wash cloth size towels. It saves a lot of money when we don't have to buy paper towels each month, and it also eliminates a lot of waste as all we have to do is throw these towels in the wash (and add a little bleach to get rid of any stains).

Do you guys have any money saving tips or tricks that you'd like to share??

Another fantastic post Carly! Our household is exactly the same - one income until I finish my teaching degree!! We have a coffee machine which really saves lots of money, mind you I just LOVE that portable coffee mug you have!! Other than that, I try to save money by making things wherever I can (I love homemade everything- could you tell), and I bought a slow cooker last year and I make enough each time to freeze for David's lunches (that saves so much money!). Great tip about the paper towel, thanks:) Have a lovely day - Tina x
