It Has Been Ordered...

{Image via walmart.com}

I've officially ordered this dining room table from Walmart, to use as a desk in our office. Most of you seemed to like this choice more, commenting that you thought that the lines were the most clean and simple. And I totally agreed, even better...this table was the cheaper option. I've received my conformation email and have been told that I should get my "desk" as early as this Friday, so hopefully you'll be seeing pictures next week!

I figure some of you are also wondering what I'm up to on that master bedroom redo that I was one working so diligently on {read about it here, here, and here}...

{My inspiration photo}

I'm currently looking for different, unique plates to hang over our bed. I think all of these plain, white plates are beautiful, but I'm hoping for something a little different and kinda funky. I'll be sure to keep you updated.

What are you up to in your home? I'd love to see some links.

Office Update

Awhile back I blogged about our office redo. This project has been moving slowly for different reasons, but mainly because of the lack of funds and the lack of time. Hubby will be receiving a bonus this summer and we plan to use that to get a lot done, but until then I'll have to suffer do a little at a time.

When I blogged about the office last, I shared this little mood board that I created...

A few things have changed since then. One, I decided against painting the desk green. It's not that I changed my mind about the color, but I know how indecisive I am and how quickly my mind changes on things. Green is a big commitment; so, I decided to just stick with a plain black desk. It'll still fit in the room but can fit into other color schemes through out the years.

I also decided to get rid of the desk that we had {I mentioned it at the end of my last office post}. It was a "computer desk" meaning that it was way too small to do crafts and grade all of my papers on. Instead, I've decided to buy a small dining room table, and use it as a desk. Plenty of space and sleek simple lines. I'm currently looking at these two great deals from Walmart...

 Choice 1:
 Finish: Black {although, it looks a little Espresso-y here}
Dimensions in Inches {L x W x H}: 45 x 28 x 29
Price: $79.00

Choice 2:
Finish: Black
Dimensions in Inches {L x W x H}: 48 x 31.88 x 30
Price: $99.00

I've read the reviews on both products, and they both have received really good reviews. I feel like you get what you pay for in situations like this, but right now these prices are more realistic in our budget. Plus, most of what I've bought from Walmart in the past has been pretty durable and a good deal. I'm willing to take a chance again. And if all else fails, Walmart is great about returns.

Which table do you like more, Choice 1 or Choice 2?

That Post I Promised...

Last week, I mentioned that my inspiration for our master bedroom has changed. Here is our new inspiration:

 Beautiful, yes?
{Image via flickr}

I also promised in my last post, that I would show you the first step in creating this bedroom in my own home. So here are the details...

For me, the first step was buying a natural wood headboard. I honestly came across this Craigslist add before I even decided to switch my bedroom inspiration. Here is the picture that was attached in the Craigslist add that I saw:

 The picture was dark, a little grainy, and I hated those knobs.

The price was great though...a solid wood headboard for $20.  I knew I could saw the knobs off  and my original plan was to paint the headboard, but obviously with the new inspiration the color of the wood worked perfectly. So I decided to go ahead and make the jump. Luckily, I really liked the headboard a lot more in person. After a long drive the headboard was in our home and behind my bed.

{Sorry about the poor lighting. We don't get much natural light in our home.}

Doesn't it look similar to the headboard in the inspiration picture? Well not similar in it's make or design, but similar in the coloring. I'm pretty happy with it, and I really like the shape and look of it. We still need to attach it to the bed frame, but that's it. Pretty easy "project" huh? A lot less than I originally planned.

Are any of you thinking I'm crazy to not paint this piece?
Or are you agreeing with me in keeping it the color it is because of the inspiration picture?

Bedroom To Do List:
1) Buy a new headboard.
2) Find a few more little plates to go over the bed (I already own one that I plan to use)
3) Find the perfect blue-grey paint color
4) Find a new set of lamps
5) Find embroidered pillow cases
6) Find little silver trinkets for the nightstands

Master Bedroom Progress

Meet our master bedroom wall before...

This picture was taken before I ever moved into the house with my hubby, so the walls are obviously extremely bare, but you get the picture.

We knew that we couldn't afford to purchase a headboard, so the idea was to create the illusion of a headboard with this stripe. I wouldn't call it a fail, I mean we managed to paint a really straight stripe but...I never liked it. It's all too dark...the bedding and the paint...just too dark!

Some different furniture, new bedding, a move of the position of the bed, and a year later...I have finally painted over that stripe. Since we're now switching to a white, grey, and yellow theme in the bedroom the stripe had to be gone!

After two coats of oil based primer and a coat of Chenin Blanc (by Kilz), this is what we have...

Hallelujah, the purple stripe is gone!!

We're Making Progress!

In the past few months I have occasionally posted about the changes that I've been hoping to implement in my bedroom; specifically changes in my bedding. Since then I have been searching for an all white comforter and continually coming up short...until recently! This past week while  I was picking up a Father's Day gift for my father-in-law at Target, I was perusing the bedding aisle and found the white comforter that I've been looking for! Even better...the comforter came with two pillow shams and a bed-skirt. I was extremely relieved to find the comforter because now I feel as if I can continue on with the rest of the redecorating.

And how will I start the rest of my redecorating? With this gorgeous print that I recently won in a giveaway from Nellie at McCarthy Designs

My gorgeous print came in the mail late last week and I was so excited to see it...It definitely exceeded my expectations (Thanks Nellie)! The print is so big and so beautiful. I'm planning on hanging this bright print over our bed for a pop of color. And I'm thinking of hanging this print in a beautiful, ornate, gold frame...something a little like this...

 (Of course the frame will hang horizontally.)

So what do you guys think? Do you like the plan of the gold frame or do you think something more simple would suit the print better? I'd love to hear your thoughts! x

It's That Time of Year...

The flowers are blooming and the air is warm...do you know what that means? It's wedding season. Ah yes, it's summer in Texas and the weddings are here. I'm looking at attending 3 or 4 weddings this summer and my favorite thing about them? Finding the perfect little dress to wear. Here are a few options for all of you wedding goers...

Wedding Type: Outdoor Wedding

 Forever 21, $24.80
This dress is perfect for an outdoor wedding. It's free flowing and casual, and the enlarged eyelet trim allows a little breeze as well. Because this dress is for an outdoor wedding, it is assumed that the attire will be casual; however, the sweet bow on this dress gives it a dressier look.

 Forever 21, $24.80
This nude, linen dress is a little plain but pairing it with a chunky belt will definitely spice it up!

 Forever 21, $24.80
This dress is thin and flowing which is perfect for a hot day or a warm night. The dress also features an exposed zipper in the back, which is very in right now.

Wedding Type: City Sleek

Forever 21, $27.80
We all have those friends that host city chic weddings. The ones in big, grandeur, downtown buildings with thousand of flowers. It's hip and it's stylish...and this dress is perfect for such an occasion! This dress also stands without any major jewelry because of it's detailing.

 Forever 21, $27.80
 Although this dress is of an understated color, the design and the sheen of the fabric is a major standout! Because of the simplicity of this dress, bright jewelry pieces could definitely be added.

 Forever 21, $29.80
 The detailing on this dress is fantastic. Once again no accessories are needed, this dress says it all itself.

Wedding Type: Classic Style
Forever 21, $24.80
This dress is a classic silhouette, and one of the only summer dresses I found that wasn't strapless. The black and white says "I'm classic," but the polka dots say, "I'm still fun."

 Forever 21, $29.80
The cowl neck makes this dress classic, while the less fit is extremely comfortable.

And the best part about all of these dresses? They all cost just under $30.00! What a deal, right? With all of that extra cash you can buy a new pair of shoes and accessories! Now...off to shopping you go! x

Quilt Advice...Please?

Just wanted to write another quick post. Earlier today I posted about my love for quilts and while I was at Walmart shopping for groceries, I came upon this quilt, bed-in-a-bag set for a GREAT deal. I had been planning on buying a white quilt for the bed but I thought this quilt was nice too. So I bought this quilt, (that also came with 2 pillow shams) knowing that I could return it if I wanted. I came home and put it on my bed; I like it although it's hard to get a feel for it with so much of my old decor still in the room. But here is a picture or the quilt (sorry about the quality of the picture, it was taken on my phone)...

What do y'all think of the look of the quilt? Do you like it? Do you think it's pretty but that I should just stick with my original plan of the white quilt with color accents in things like pillows? Help please!

Quaint Quilts

Do you know something I would love to know how to do? Quilting. Perhaps it's a little bit of my country style but I just love them; and since quilts can be expensive at times, wouldn't it be great to be able to make them yourself? Several of my relatives are avid quilters...perhaps I can just bribe them to make a few quilts for me. Until then I will just have to drool over some of these quilts...

 I love all of the different elements in this room. It looks like the perfect, young girls room.
 I love the entire look of this room! I think this room will be my main inspiration for my bedroom makeover. The room is so fresh and simple. (If anyone knows who this image belongs to, do tell, so that I can give them proper credit!)

Do You Fit Into Your Home?

After reading many great posts on decor styles, including this one written by Anna from Lona de Anna, I think I've come up with what my decor style is. I would have to say my decor style is country chic with a little bit of shabby chic tossed in there. Here are some of my favorite country-shabby chic rooms...

  IMAGES FROM: country living, morgan harrison home,
notebook magazine, skona hem, and pearson for house beautiful.

But can I just be honest here?...My house looks NOTHING like this! Why? Well, that's a good question...I know that this is the style that is most me and the style that I love but when I first moved into my home I'm not sure I really knew what my style was. Maybe some of you who moved into your first home, the first home you were responsible for decorating all on your own , understand what I'm saying here or maybe I'm the only one.

I'm not saying that my house is ugly...it definitely isn't...it just doesn't feel like me. I am aware that none of you even know what to think about my house as I've never posted a picture of it on here but I promise that I'll try to get on that soon. I think when I moved in with my husband and took over the big job of decorating this reasonably sized house, I immediately began to decorate in the home decor style that I knew...my mothers style with a small mix of both of my grandmother's homes. Once again, this isn't a bad style, it just isn't what I want.

So...I need YOUR advice blogging beauties! If you've made major transformations in your own home before I would love to see pictures or read blog posts about it. I just want your help! How do you suggest going about changing my house of deep reds and golds and traditional  with a touch of modern decor to clean and crisp creme walls and country-shabby chic decor?
